Dreamliner is a breath of fresh air

E-mail Print PDF

NEW BOEING 787 DREAMLINER OFFERS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR BUT HIGHLIGHTS DANGERS OF CONTAMINATED AIR ON OTHER JET AIRLINERS

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s impressive levels of passenger well-being include the provision of cleaner cabin air but reaffirm concerns by crew and passengers that the presence of toxic fumes in other aircraft are causing severe health issues.

boeing787

The air system adopted for the Dreamliner is a throwback to the same technology used in the early days of jet airliners which brings air in through filters directly from the outside. However, every other jet airliner built since the1960s still uses a ‘bleed air’ system which brings air into the cabin via the engines without any preventative measures against contamination by poisonous vapours produced by the engine. This includes Tricresyl Phosphate (TCP) which is used by most commercial jet engine oils as an anti-wear additive and is also used in the manufacture of nerve agents.

Breathing contaminated cabin air is the credited cause of thousands of cases of Aerotoxic Syndrome globally, some seriously incapacitating the victims. The Aerotoxic Association is working with pilots, cabin staff, passengers and the industry to highlight the very serious implications of allowing ‘bleed air’ into aircraft cabins and to campaign for safe air filter systems.

John-HoyteFenny Compton's John Hoyte, spokesman for the Aerotoxic Association and former pilot, comments: “The technology used in the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a positive move forwards by the industry, but the fact remains that there is no protection from fume events in every other commercial jet airliner. Aviation regulators and the aviation industry as a whole fail to address the fact that crew and passengers are at severe risk of breathing in poisonous fumes which can lead them to serious illness.”

Dennis Lawrence Garden Competition

E-mail Print PDF

Fire stations across Warwickshire have been creating their very own gardens in bloom as part of the annual Dennis Lawrence Garden Competition.

Atherstone Fire Station is this year's winner, with their unique creation of a floral Warwickshire bear. Bidford Fire Station secured the winner of the Retained section for the third consecutive year.

Warwickshire's Chief Officer, Graeme Smith, chose the winner from nine entries from stations from across the county. This is the 13th year that the competition has been run in memory of a former personnel officer of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, Dennis Lawrence.

On judging the competition, Chief Fire Officer, Graeme Smith said: “This is the first time that I have had to judge this competition and I was surprised to see the work firefighters have put into the gardens in their own time to create some very innovative displays. I think the garden at Atherstone really was unique, and is something the community can be proud of, which is why they were the overall winners for me.”

Stations taking part had to create a mini summer garden, to make their station one the community could be proud of. The runners up for the competition include the training and development centre in Bedworth and Southam fire station.

Other winners include;
Runner up Retained: Southam Fire Station
unner up Wholetime: Bedworth Training and Development Centre
Most Improved: Wellesbourne Fire Station
Best Hanging Baskets: Bidford Fire Station

Aerotoxic Association

E-mail Print PDF

There’s a critical plea for a person to provide IT cover and superior web-design skills to the Aerotoxic Association following the sharp growth in its work in creating public awareness of toxic ‘fume events’ on aircraft.

The Association, based in Fenny Compton, was set up as a small voluntary organisation in 2007 by Captain John Hoyte. It provides key information and news updates on Aerotoxic Syndrome, a potentially serious illness resulting from toxic fumes inhaled on flights which John himself has suffered. It is estimated about 196,000 UK passengers a year are being exposed to toxic fumes, experiencing varying degrees of neurological problems, fatigue, exhaustion, slurred speech and a feeling of intoxication. With growing concern globally, a wealth of ongoing political and industry stories are appearing and resulting in an increase in the work of the Association.

Assistance is required to keep the website, www.aerotoxic.org updated and also to help with the research of a book on the issue. If anyone is interested to support the Association and has both of these skills – especially if they have a scientific or medical background - they are asked to get in touch by email.

High Speed Stasi Link 2

E-mail Print PDF

We have complained about the antics of democracy haters HS2 Limited to their paymaster, Philip Hammond MP.

With the same sort of arrogance displayed by his apparatchiks he has ignored us.

Southam News, in the scale of things, is inconsequential. It is suprising, therefore, that it has been singled out for attack and attempts made to use it as a tool to split opposition groups. Perhaps Southam News has immense power and has shaken Westminster to the core - it's just that no-one has told us.

The position of Southam News on the High Speed Link is one of neutrality.

The position of Southam News on anti-democratic state sponsored manipulation is one of opposition.

How to Win Friends and Influence People 2

E-mail Print PDF

Southam News has received what can only be described as threats from a Stasi like outfit  known as HS2 Limited.

Despite being "the company set up by the Government to consider the case for new high speed rail services between London and Scotland" they have chosen to attack poor little  defenseless Southam News.

Highest on their list of allegations, accusations and threats is the use of their logo.

Arguably the logo is in the public domain and  is commonly used by those discussing or reporting on the proposed rail link. The logo does not contain a © ® or tm which is commonly used by companies to illustrate their legal position.

banned

The basis for their attack is, they think people could read an article headlined with their logo and believe that the content is sanctioned by them.

This is a mistake common with such organizations: they are so stupid they think everyone else is even more stupid than they are.

We have used the HS2 logo as a shorthand way of saying; 'this article is about the proposed High Speed Rail Link 2'. This gives people fair warning that it's yet another story about the proposed High Speed Rail Link 2.

We used to have our own shorthand logo [see below] but it has been side-lined..

animated-train-002

For the sake of fair and balanced reporting we will list here the full, world-wide, list of those banned from using the logo:

Full , world-wide, list of those banned from using the HS2 logo
Southam News

Content contained within the pages of Southam News relating to the proposed High Speed Rail Link 2 is largely against. This is because it is what we are furnished with.
We would be happy to run HS2 Limited's side of the story but they can't be bothered to return our calls or emails.

Equally, we would be more than happy to run content in support of the proposed link.

Because HS2 Limited is part of the Government we are, obviously, afraid of ending up in a wood somewhere so we are happy to drop their logo.

Henceforth we shall use our shiny new logo. When you see this shiny new logo you will know it's yet another story about the proposed High Speed Rail Link 2.

Anyone and everyone in the world can use our logo and do what they like with it. However we have produced an extensive list of organizations that may not use the logo.

Full list of those not allowed to use our shiny new High Speed Rail Link 2 logo

So, here it is, our shiny new High Speed Rail Link 2 logo:
