Review of Open Space, Sport and Recreation provision in Stratford-on-Avon District

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has begun a review of open space, sport and recreation provision across the district. The aim is to ensure that local communities have access to facilities and services that meet their sporting, leisure and recreational needs, both now and in the future. The review will cover a wide range of open spaces, from parks and gardens, to outdoor sports, children’s play areas and allotments.

council-sp-002One of the most important elements of the review is to understand what local communities think about existing open space and sports provision in the local area and how it could be improved. This information will be inputted directly into the review and will influence the findings and outcome of the project.

The review will cover a wide range of open spaces and community facilities, including:
• Parks and gardens
• Local open spaces such as village greens
• Natural greenspace such as local nature reserves
• Children’s play areas and facilities for young people
• Allotments
• Cemeteries
• Indoor and outdoor sports
• Community facilities such as village halls

Questions that the review will answer include:
• Is the current level of provision sufficient to meet local communities’ needs and aspirations?
• Is the quality of existing provision satisfactory?
• Are existing facilities accessible to all members of the community?
• What could be improved and where?

The findings of the review will be used to inform the planning of new facilities, prioritise investment and secure contributions towards open space and sports provision in new development.

As part of the review, the District Council is keen to hear what local communities and residents think about existing open space and sports facilities and how they can be improved. This information will feed directly into the review and will influence the findings and outcome of the project.

The District Council has developed a questionnaire that can be completed online; it only takes a few minutes to fill in and the results will be valuable in ensuring that the review is effective in meeting the needs of local communities.

The questionnaire can be accessed and completed here
